NAME

When a baby is born in your house, your next door neighbour may not even come to visit you but when your old father dies the same neighbour might turn up at the cremation ground in the middle of the night. Such is the bizarre character of Mumbai. Whoever has lived in this great city for little more than a year will easily reckon what I mean.
In this city, we have a great knack for considering ourselves very independent without realising how much we are dependent on others in our day to day life.  One such example is our dependence on  our "bai" (house maids). Almost every working class family here is overtly dependent on their maids who comes every morning for cleaning and cooking. In all these years of living in Mumbai, I have  found these maids are generally very trustworthy and caring. My present maid has been working for me for close to 2 years now. She is a middle aged bengali muslim lady. She regularly does all my cleaning jobs and ocassionally cooks for me. She is a descent cook I must say. But her best quality is her pleasant  behaviour and her caring nature. Once I was sick and she took care of me like my mother. But she doesnt like my way of life. She doesn't like to see me alone. She often questions me, " sahab don't you feel lonely in life?" She wants me to get married to a beautiful girl so that I have someone who will take care of me when I grow old. But I have no answers to her concerns.
Today morning she started this same conversation with me again and in the middle of our conversation I suddenly realised something very weird. Something which neither of us have ever noticed before.
It's been close to 2 years she has been working for me and I still don't  know her name. I adress her as "didi" (sister) but I never asked her her name. Strange but true. Now out of my curiosity, I asked her if she knew my name. She instantly said "No sahab".
We silently looked at each other for a moment and then we both laughed without still bothering to learn each other's name.
I was wondering if the creator of this universe has ever named any of his creations.

ON WOMEN'S DAY

WOMEN have always brought MISERIES into my life.

My dear MOTHER, you brought me into this world but left me alone to struggle.
My dear SISTERS, you got married and your husbands became your priorities.
My dear MUSE, you often come like a breeze and go away like a storm.
And yet you are the WOMEN my heart has always LOVED. Happy Women's Day !!

MY ALCHEMIST

Some stupid philosophers once told to this world that you need a partner to have a love affair.
Tremendously foolish I say.
I feel I love you and that way I'm having an affair with you.
Now do you have to love me for that?  No.

I m utterly blissful at this very moment, becaue I m finding happiness in my love for you.
You love me or not is absolutely irrelevant.
I m happy, because I m in love with the most beautiful woman on earth that is you and I give a damn that you love me or not.

My love for you will make me more blissful in my near future, I will be more creative in my thoughts and immensely artistic in my vision. It is my love for you that will excel the winning spirit in me. It is my love for you which will inspire me to conquer the world. So I give a damn to the fact that you love me or not. And you will see my love will make me win. Wherever I shall travel, I shall carry with me - my love for you. My love for you is my ALCHEMIST !!

1 MIN READ- AN ANCIENT INDIAN STORY

A man who was inveterate  smoker woke up one night and was seized with the desire to have a smoke. There was no fire in the house and he decided to go to his neighbour's house for getting the fire.  As it was dark he took up a lantern that was burning in his house and going to the neighbour's house, knocked at the door.  The neighbour got up and asked what he wanted.  The man said, "I want fire for lighting my tobacco". The neighbour said,  " It is strange that you have fire in the lantern,  you think fit to come and wake me up". "Ah yes", said the man,  "I really forgot about the lantern", and went away ashamed at his own blunder.

THE ART OF MEDICINE

It's been few months I am out of town, working at a far away place - where whiskey is cheaper and medicine expensive.  It's been few weeks my teeth is giving me pain.

I went to see a young dentist, he gave me loads of anti-biotics.Then I went to another, a young and beautiful lady doctor. And she advised me to get one of my teeth uprooted.
But getting your teeth uprooted is a scary thing.
Not so confident about the health experts of the town, I thought of getting a third opinion. So, I went to the biggest hospital aviailable. There they asked me to fill a form for OPD consultation. The form had a mandatory column. I was asked to write my guardian's name. And........ I suddenly realized that I don't have a guardian, so was wondering what to write. I wrote one of my very close friend's name, though with a bit of sadness.
A nurse guided me towards a cabin. I opened the door and a senior lady dentist greeted me with a really big smile. She silently listened to all my health problems and then she slowly asked me, "son, aren't you too young to die?"

WHY I THINK THIS WORLD CUP WILL BE BEST EVER?

I was little surprised to read a report today which said 7% of Brazilians will root against their home team. That means, based on a latest unofficial census, if the current estimated population of Brazil is approximately 202,507,013 than 14,175,491 Brazilians will be rooting for some other countries. If such huge numbers of locals are expected to root for other countries than Brazil automatically has the chance to become the best host ever. Ironical but true. Isn't it? The reason may be their social & political outbursts, but the outcome is surely expected to be very healthy for football as a whole.

Now let me pull your attention to another report. According to a recent survey by Instagram, Brazil tops as the happiest nation on earth. So when our eyes and our hearts will be glued to the happiest people, chances are that the rest of the world shall become happier for at least next 30 days, if not more. Isn't it?

THE GRAVE WHERE I SLEPT

Believe me or not, but the truth is I grew up in my childhood sleeping on these graves !
No...you got it wrong ! Of course I had my parent's house to sleep at night but during the hot summer afternoons, specially after an exhausting game of cricket or football with my neighboring kids, we often took resort on these graves simply because the expensive Italian marbles on them provided much relief to our tired body.

But most of those marbles are unfortunately missing now from the place- probably destroyed by time.

This 19th century British cemetery is located near the house where I grew up in Golaghat, a small town in Assam. Most of the graves belongs to erstwhile British tea- planters from neighboring areas and political agents of the nearby Naga Hills.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE WAS A BETTER SINGER THAN TANSEN IN AKBAR'S EMPIRE?

The great emperor Akbar was very fond of music, and his famous court musician Tansen used to entertain him with his songs. One day Akbar asked him whether there was anyone in the world who could sing better than he.

5 MINS READ- An Ancient Indian Story

A king once went out hunting with his prime minister. The  king saw a stag in the forest but while fixing the arrow to the bow string, one of his fingers got a cut from the sharp edge of the arrow. The prime minister assured the king that the cut he had got was for his good. This remark displeased the king, who looked around and finding a well nearby , took the prime minister there & pushed him down into the well. The King told him sarcastically that if he had fallen into the well it was for his own good.

INDIA and the WEST

In the West people wear warm clothes in snow clad areas and bikinis on the beaches.

In India people wear bikinis in the freezing Himalayas and fully covered clothes on beaches. That is the basic difference between India and the West ♥

LOVE - THE MYSTERIOUS ENERGY

Whenever we come across each other we often tend to become speechless, even absolute numb at times.

Ever wondered why ?

Perhaps there is a mysterious energy which starts transmitting between us. And this transmission is far more overpowering than our mere words. Only we both are not wise enough to recognize it.
